Is Guava A Donut?

I've had this since I was a kid, got it on vinyl when I was 15 or so. I doubt that I've listened to it all the way through more than 3 or 4 times. But I'm really glad it exists, because this is hands-down the weirdest music I've ever heard.

Every now & again the songs slip momentarily into a recognizable form-- perhaps in a 'quirky geeks trying to out-clever the Residents' sort of mode. But then the insane gibbering insects start their choral music again and the wolf spiders crawl all over your face and the moon starts beating its big plastic drum overhead and everything goes fractal grid, and it goes back to bearing no relation whatsoever to any known variety of human music.

Interestingly, this is completely non-electronic, instruments are all tweaked objects and modified sound sources. You can't get this particular kind of bizarreness from oscillators.

Enjoy, Meltmaster!

The Creaking Door Will Always Creak

Demented and only half-there songs from the founder of Pink Floyd, after his breakdown had begun. Hard to judge how much is craft and how much is loss of control, but there's a general feeling of helplessness throughout, and you can hear the backing musicians (essentially Gilmour and other Floydians) getting lost and irritated as they struggle to guess the next chord. Somehow many of the songs 'work' anyhow.

This was immensely influential for me as a kid: it showed me that the world loved romantically deranged, lovable psychedelically damaged losers. Which then solidified my life's goals for many years. Unfortunately I was never good-looking enough, or genuinely disturbed enough, to become the wastoid I aspired to be. Sigh.

Each Today is Yesterday's Tomorrow

Not much point in trying to describe this. Listen; either you'll love it or you won't. I think odds are in favor of the former. This is not abstract or intellectual music: it's sweet and naive and direct. Enjoy.

Files are in two parts: just unzip to one folder and proceed as usual.

If you're in the NYC area, come see Rad Unicorn tonight in Brooklyn. 8 pm sharp, Jalopy Theatre. $10 but that includes CDs from the Bogs Visionary Orchestra and Jose Delhart, both of which ought to be well worth owning.
