SXSW 2010: Neon Indian

SXSW ended a week ago. Now that I've had a chance to let the hangover dissipate and sift through the experience, I thought I'd share some goods and bads with you.

I've lived in Austin for almost six years (this was my fifth SXSW), and I love discovering bands this time of year and sharing the nuggets I find among the dust.

First up: Neon Indian.

I have been listening to Neon Indian for a bit and so was excited when I learned they were coming to Austin. The main chap is from the area (Denton, TX) but moved to Brooklyn before he started this band.

Because there was a fair amount of buzz about them, I wanted to catch them early before the crowds showed up on Friday. I certainly wasn't disappointed, even if they were a bit prima donna-ish on stage.

This video is a fan-vid, I believe. I always think of Neon Indian's sound as very futuristic and almost romantic, practically sprung from the vibe of Daft Punk's Digital Love; this video goes the other way and depicts a gauzy, summer from the past. Maybe I like it because I spent part of my childhood in Chicago. [Holla.]
