I Rock The Rhyme That Heals The Blind
Great golden-age conscious rap, in which The Nation of Gods and Earths is revealed to be glorious fun, as reflected via endlessly creative beats, wacky digressions, and loose, dizzyingly speedy and playful wordplay. It's pretty great listening, even for a pigment-deprived devil like myself. (I bought this on cassette in 1991 and have loved it ferociously ever since. I hope that doesn't somehow reflect badly on their efficacy as prophets.)

Mixtapes for Mason- Claws of Hawks- Rap 1
Welcome to the newest installment of Ero's Mixtape Extravaganza! This is Side A of Tape 1 of the Rap & Hip-Hop compilations. There are two cassettes all-told, which means 4 40+ minute mixes. They're not really in any order, though in any project like this patterns seem to emerge. I just wanted to put a lot of good songs together. It should be said that while I intended to include some of the more 'important' artists in the genre, I by no means possess the knowledge to do a proper survey. This is, more than anything else, a bunch of stuff I like. (This also means that it's low on n-words and gratuitous bloodshed, since I'm a wimpy liberal white guy who doesn't get off on violence, but does get off on funk and creativity).
Enjoy, and then, also, enjoy.

That's It Kid, Analyze the Lyric

This is about as good an overview of the rap universe as one could ask for. Also, just a lot of amazing songs. And, even the ones I don't like on the first ten listens, sound great on the eleventh. The shit is real. As they say.
There aren't 50 though, despite the compilation name: there are 71. These fit into, approximately, 7 uploadable files, which should be unzipped to some sort of directory on your computer, and then snorted into your nose in whatever fashion you prefer.
Alternate titles for this post include "Visions of the Crystal City Made This Brother Trip", "Let Loose the Lingo, Let it Go and Let it Flow" and "This Fucking Shit Is Real".

The Name of the Game Is Life Works
The great final work, finished just before his death. Every track is gorgeous, and deceptively simple (though details emerge on repeated close listening). There's lots of heart in these, proving just how emotionally rich unadorned hip-hop beats can be.
