One of the ur-texts of 20th-century popular music. And a desert-island disc if there ever was one. I've listened to this thousands of times and never get tired of it. The recording is cloudy with noise and the songs are weighted with the jokes and references of a time and place completely foreign to us now, but the urgency and intensity remain.
